Megan Jones off to Greenland

Megan Jones has been selected as a finalist in the Calleen Art Award, which will be exhibited at Cowra Regional gallery in April/May, and at the end of April, she will be leaving for an artist residency for the month of May on the island of Upernavik, Greenland.

David Henderson part of Art Spectacular

David Henderson has been invited to exhibit in the 2012 Brisbane Rotary Art Spectacular exhibition. The exhibition opens at the Riverside Centre, 123 Eagle Street, Brisbane on 19 April and continues until 28 April. Proceeds will benefit the Queensland Cerebral Palsy League.

Inkfest - a festival of printmaking

Laurel McKenzie, Margaret Genever and Sasi Victoire are among the Inkmasters Cairns Inc. members who are organising and showing in a major festival of printmaking, Inkfest - an innovative addition to Cairns Festival - between April and September 2012. Some of Australia's top artists will be in Cairns as Artists in Residence prior to Inkfest and will deliver workshops.

Susan Weir's New York tours

Susan Weir is hosting Art and Design tours to New York in Spring and Autumn this year. You can experience New York from an artist, designer and native New Yorker's point of view during May, June or September and visit New York's leading museums, galleries, street art and eateries in five different neighborhoods.

Family rally behind Parkinsons' Fundraiser

Jen Conde is exhibiting, alongside other members of her family, paintings and prints at the charity art show - Art for Parkinsons. All works at the show will be available for purchase and funds raised will go towards finding a cure for Parkinsons disease. Exhibition opens Friday 23 March (6pm) at Three White Rooms Gallery (138 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington, Brisbane) and continues until 25 March.

Robyn Dansie on Roar Drawing

Robyn Dansie recently had the opportunity to be interviewed in her studio for the Roar Drawing blog in Melbourne. Robyn is working on a series of works with a view to exhibiting in Melbourne later in the year.

Adrienne Williams at BRAG and Doggett Street

Adrienne Willams' new work - The Spotted Gum. From Bundanon to Bundaberg - which is currently on at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery will be moving to Doggett Street Studio on April 27. Material from a Bundanon residency and Adrienne’s new country habitat are at the core of these works and seasonal change is explored through textures, peeling spots, and creamy trunks in oil canvasses and collagraph prints.

Sandra Okalyi's Southern Queensland birds

Sandra Okalyi's Channel-Billed Cuckoo is her most recent Giclee print from a painting. You can visit the bird gallery on her website for other Southern Queensland bird prints and paintings.

Dave Groom involved in community mural project

Dave Groom has joined forces with another painter of the Scenic Rim, John Jackson (The Rock Doctor) and writer, Sally MacKinnon, to help create a series of community murals as part of 'The Rim' project. The murals are created by community members who have turned up to Arts in the Olives at Lost World Valley and World Environment Day at Boonah. The theme and inspiration for the murals is the landscape of the Scenic Rim. The murals will be exhibited at The Centre in Beaudesert early next year.

New Mel Brigg work

New works from Mel Brigg will be exhibited at the Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery (515 Sydney Road, Seaforth, NSW. Ph: 02 9907 0595) from Friday 21 October.

Dave Groom part of ABC Artist by Artist

A regional ABC Open Project called Artist By Artist has paired up diverse artists from the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast Regions to create a documentary on each other's work. Dave Groom created a piece on Gold Coast multimedia artist Kimberley Bianca, while Kimberley traveled up to Beechmont to film Dave at his studio. Paul Renwick Farley's four year work

Paul Renwick Farley's latest work which has been four years in the making is soon to be revealed. Notification will be given on his home page when the work is ready for viewing. His traditional and surrealist art and macro nature photography are available as prints.

Natalie Billing recording memories

As part of the opening celebrations of the Kangaroo Point Multicultural Centre (Qld), Natalie Billing is creating an interactive artwork recording the memories of those who passed through the doors of Yungaba House. Meetings to gather and record memories will be held at Yungaba House at 11am on Wednesdays in September (14, 21, 28).

Three artists' views of their city

Elisabeth Lawrence, Mel McRae and Kylie Farrelly’s latest urban landscapes are on now in a group show at London Offices (30 Florence St, Teneriffe, Qld) and runs to 17 September. Elisabeth has also been invited to participate in the Tattersall exhibition - Country to the Coast - which runs 12 to 23 September at Waterfront Place (Brisbane). Mel McRae has a current exhibition displaying iconic Gold Coast landscapes at Worrell's Office (Robina).

Dave Groom tutoring at Ancient Arts Festival

The Ancient Arts festival in Southeast Queensland which runs 21 to 24 September will feature traditional art practices like blacksmithing and sandstone carving. Dave Groom will also be running a three day drawing workshop, using charcoal and pastels, to explore the dramatic landscape of Lost World Valley on the edge of Lamington National Park. The Festival features an open day on 24 September with market stalls as well as the chance to see what has been created in the workshops.

Lyndal Hargrave a finalist in Powerhouse show

Lyndal Hargrave's wall mounted sculpture - Sacred Geometry - has been selected from over 700 international entries for the Love Lace exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum (500 Harris Street, Ultimo, NSW) which is now on until 29 April 2012. Lyndal has also been commissioned by Sydney City to submit a design concept for a large scale sculptural facade for an inner city building refurbishment project.

Anita West commissions set for Abu Dhabi

Anita West has completed 8 commissions for TVH Gallery in Sydney following her sell out show, and has secured two large commissions for the Presidential Suites of the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi. Anita has also been asked to paint two large commissioned works for the foyer of the SOUL apartment building on the Gold Coast, based on her landscape series.

Kym Barrett - Artist-In-Focus

Kym Barrett is showing her recent work as Artist-In-Focus at the 30th Immanuel Arts Festival (Immanuel Lutheran College, 126-142 Wises Road, Buderim, Qld) which runs 19-22 May. Last year, Kym's work - The Memory of Trees I - was awarded Best Painting of the Festival by John Waldron, director of Caloundra Regional Gallery.

Diana Heath part of Rotary Art Spectacular

Diana Heath is taking part in this year's 32nd Rotary Art Spectacular at Riverside Centre (123 Eagle Street, Brisbane, Qld) which opens 7 April and runs to 16April. The exhibition aids the Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children as well as The Heart Foundation. Diana is also currently working on a series of etchings which will hopefully tie in with work being produced on a two week intensive printmaking workshop with Basil Hall, masterprinter, on the island of Skopelos, Greece in June 2011.

Cairns Ink launched to promote printmaking

Cairns Ink is a newly formed group, aiming to raise the profile of printmaking as an art form in Cairns and providing opportunities for artists by promoting their work to a wider audience. A not-for-profit organization, Cairns Ink was launched last month (18 March 2011) at Canopy Artspace in Cairns with Laurel McKenzie, Margaret Genever and Sasi Victoire as part of the interim committee.

Jennifer Long selected for Rotary Art Spectacular

Jennifer Long has had an oil painting - Marble and Flesh - selected for the 2011 Rotary Art Spectacular which runs 7-16 April at the Riverside Centre (123 Eagle Street, Brisbane, Qld) with the opening on 7 April (6-8pm).

Allyson Reynolds part of LondonAAF

Allyson Reynolds will be taking part in this year's London Affordable Art Fair as part of Rebecca Hossack Gallery across the weekend of 10-13 March. Reynolds is currently working on a new solo exhibition which is due to open at Rebecca Hossack Gallery, London in January 2012.

Annie Jamieson highlights Coochiemudlo

Annie Jamieson and David Allen Seibert will be showcasing their ongoing love and respect for the unique environment of Coochiemudlo Island where they live and work in the exhibition - Two Directions - One Island - which opens on Sunday 17 April (11am) and runs to 18 May at Redland Art Gallery (Corner of Bloomfield and Middle Streets, Cleveland, Qld.
