'A Paris Sketchbook': Painting in Paris

David Henderson will be teaching a watercolour workshop in Paris for Australians Studying Abroad next year from 11 - 20 May. The programme will combine a series of outdoor painting sessions in and around Paris with visits to museums and galleries. It will also include visits to places associated with painters such as Van Gogh, Cézanne and Monet as well as the opportunity to meet and work alongside local artists.

This tour will integrate museum visits with a series of fully tutored outdoor watercolour painting workshops in and around Paris. This most evocative of cities has one of the greatest concentrations of art museums to be found anywhere in the world. For all tour participants, this will present an opportunity to sample the wealth and diversity of Paris’s visual culture; for those who wish to paint, a close study of a number of specific works will relate directly to questions of composition, technique, and the challenges specific to representing the landscape. Most of the painting sessions will take place near the city centre, while others will be held at places bearing some of Impressionism’s best-known names, such as Pontoise and Montmartre.
